We used to live in a very similar house round the corner from the house in Wimbledon Park on the Edwardian 'grid' of small terraced houses where Raymond Briggs grew up. The area has been very much gentrified now, though not quite all the houses. The original details on the houses, the windows, doors, porches, for instance, are beautiful. Wonderful. I hadn't seen that Private Eye cartoon before, and it took me a minute to realize that 'the Snoreman' was wearing Major's famous Y-fronts. Raymond Briggs was right about a cartoonist also being a true artist (and in his case a brilliant writer too).
